SENIORS

Overview:

  • All DPS senior graduation requirements will be evaluated based on the 22-credit NC minimum graduation requirements.

  • Final GPAs will be based on the final fall grades in year-long and fall semester-length courses.

  • Future Ready graduation requirement for CPR has been waived.

  • Students’ grades will not be negatively impacted by performance during remote learning.

  • Students on the Occupational Course of Study (OCS) will complete the minimum 157 paid work hours (reduced from 225).

Year-long Courses:

  • Year-long courses will be divided into two half-credits. The first half-credit will be based on the fall final numerical grade and will be computed in the GPA. Students must be given every opportunity to improve their numerical grade for all courses.

  • Students enrolled in year-long courses will receive a PC19 (Passing due to COVID-19) or WC19 (Withdraw due to COVID-19) for the second half-credit based on learning as of March 13. PC19 earns credit while WC19 will not earn a credit. Neither PC19 nor WC19 will affect the student’s GPA.  Students must be given every opportunity to earn a PC19 for courses required for graduation and college/university admissions.

  • Students enrolled in year-long courses not required for graduation and not passing as of March 13 will receive a WC19 (Withdrawal due to COVID 19) for the second half-credit.

  • All seniors in year-long courses who did not receive credit as a result of the fall term grade, will have opportunities to earn a passing grade. Opportunities to improve the fall term course grade may include but are not limited to the following:

    • retaking examinations

    • additional coursework

    • portfolios, and/or

    • projects.

Semester Courses:

  • Semester-long fall course grades should be considered final and will be computed in the GPA.

  • Students enrolled in semester-long spring courses will receive a PC19 (Passing due to COVID-19) or WC19 (Withdraw due to COVID-19) based on learning as of March 13.  PC19 earns credit while WC19 will not earn a credit. Neither PC19 nor WC19 will affect the student’s GPA.

  • If a student has an F (59 or below) as of March 13 in a spring semester-long course required for graduation or college/university admissions, students must be provided multiple remote learning opportunities to improve to a passing grade to earn a PC19. Opportunities to improve the grade may include but are not limited to the following:

    • retaking examinations

    • additional coursework

    • portfolios, and/or

    • projects.

Students taking College and Career Promise/Dual Enrollment courses will receive the actual grade for that course on their college transcript. The high school transcript will show PC19 or WC19.

UNDERCLASSMEN

  • Student grades will not be negatively impacted by performance during remote learning. Teachers are expected to provide formative feedback only.

  • Students failing a spring semester or year-long course as of March 13 will be allowed to improve grades.

  • Students may turn in missing assignments through April 24 to improve Quarter 3 grades.

  • Students will receive numerical grades for Quarter 3.

  • Students taking College and Career Promise/Dual Enrollment courses completed Quarter 3 before the school closure and will receive those grades.

  • In the event that schools do not reopen after May 15, DPS will rely on the State Board of Education’s additional statewide guidance for final grading options.
